In order to receive any messages you need to subscribe to one or more "topics". You can have hierarchies of topics by separating them with "/", for example: mymaintopic/subtopic1 and mymaintopic/subtopic2. If you want to get messages from all of the subtopics you can use "#" as a wildcard, for example: mymaintopic/# would receive messages from either of the subtopics mentioned earlier.
If you aren't sure which topic to try to start, test/# is a good bet.
